Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami superstar, was noticeably absent from the prestigious White House ceremony on Sunday, where he was set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Cyber Reporters understands that this award is the highest civilian honor in the United States, recognizing individuals for their significant contributions to society.

Other honorees included Hollywood icons Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox.

Messi’s absence raised eyebrows, as neither he nor a representative attended the event to accept the award.

According to a statement issued on his behalf, Messi was informed of the award at the end of December and expressed his deep gratitude, but cited scheduling conflicts and prior commitments as the reason for his absence.

The White House recognized Messi for his unprecedented success on the pitch and his charity work, particularly through the Leo Messi Foundation, which supports healthcare and education programs for children worldwide.

He also serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Messi’s statement conveyed his appreciation for the gesture and his hope to meet with President Joe Biden in the near future.

Despite his absence, Messi’s impact on the world of soccer and beyond continues to be celebrated.
