The Confederation of African Football has fined the Libyan Football Federation $50,000 for misconduct during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Benin qualified for the continental showcase after drawing 0-0 with Libya in Benghazi on the final day of the qualifications.

The result of the match infuriated Libyan fans, who resorted to throwing stones and bottles at the visiting squad.

Gernot Rohr, Benin’s head coach, claimed that his players and officials were assaulted by fans and police after the final whistle.

According to a statement, the CAF Disciplinary Board found the Libyan Football Federation guilty of breaking Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code owing to the conduct of its supporters and officials during and after the play.

The Libyan Football Federation was forced to play its next two official national team matches behind closed doors, and the CAF Disciplinary Board penalized the organization USD 50,000.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board found the Libyan Football Federation guilty of violating articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for the behavior of its supporters and officials during and after the match.

“The Libyan Football Federation was ordered to play its next two (2) official national team matches behind closed doors and the CAF Disciplinary Board imposed a fine of USD 50,000 on the Libyan Football Federation.”

This comes months after the LFF was fined $50,000 for the bungled game against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The Nigerian national team spent more than 20 hours stuck at Al-Abraq International Airport before abandoning the game.
