Despite prior interest in the Nigerian international, Chelsea reportedly said Thursday that it will not be making another offer for Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen during the next January transfer window.
With 12 goals in 15 games across all competitions, including two in last month’s Europa League victory over Tottenham Hotspur, the 25-year-old, who is presently on loan at Galatasaray, has been in incredible form.
Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli broke sour, which led to his loan transfer from the Serie A team.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea, who are presently ranked second in the Premier League, will put more emphasis on a long-term plan to bolster their attacking alternatives than on pursuing Osimhen in January.
Last summer, the London club had attempted at the last minute to sign the prolific striker on a season-long loan, even offering a buyout clause. But the plan fell through, and Osimhen and Galatasaray ended up in Turkey.
As reported by football.london in September, Chelsea’s initial interest demonstrated their desire to secure a reliable goalscorer.
Instead, Chelsea has targeted Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as a potential future signing, with the club scouting him alongside other striker alternatives. It is advised that any additions in the offensive department will be reconsidered next summer.
According to speculations, Chelsea may have to let go of players in January to free up space in their roster.
