The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has verified the invitation of some government officials in Delta State.

This could be linked to the ongoing investigation into Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, allegedly diverting N1.3 trillion from the 13 percent Derivation Fund.

Some of those detained were the State Accountant General, Mrs Joy Enwa, the former Director of Finance and Administration at Government House, and others.

They were arrested and put into custody at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal office.

When contacted, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed Enwa’s incarceration as part of the ongoing investigation into Okowa.

“Yes, the Accountant General was arrested and detained by the commission for some days before she was released. We also arrested some officials of the state government but they have been released as well”, Oyewale confirmed.

However, Enwa’s statement indicated that she expected the committee to confirm her detention and incarceration.

Recall that Ifeanyi Okowa, the two-time Governor of Delta State, was detained by the anti-graft agency on November 4, 2024, for suspected theft of N1.3 trillion between 2015 and 2023. He is now on bail but is forbidden from leaving the nation as part of the bail conditions.

Okowa was also accused of an additional N40 billion, which he claimed he used to buy shares in UTM floating liquefied natural gas (LNG).
