Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party.

Abdullahi made this known on Monday in a letter signed by him and written to the PDP Chairman of Ubandawaki Ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area in Kwara State.

The former minister indicated that after much thought, he had decided that resigning was the right option for him at the time.

“I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I have had ample time to reflect and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time,” the letter read in part.

Mr Chairman, please permit me to express, through you, my gratitude to the leadership of the party for the opportunities that I have had to serve the state and the country on its platform and for the great moments we have shared,” the letter added.

In response to the news, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusola Adewara, termed Abdullahi’s resignation as “personal,” claiming that neither the party nor its leadership had offended him.

“We wish the former minister well in his endeavours. The decision is personal to him, as reflected in his letter of resignation, and he didn’t indicate that the party or our leadership offended him. So, there’s no ill feeling.
