Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, has expressed his disappointment over the latest development in the alleged ₦80 billion fraud case involving former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Cyber Reporters reports that the Abuja Federal High Court granted Bello bail in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties in like sum on Friday.

Earlier, Bello had pleaded not guilty to the 19-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The EFCC had accused Bello of being involved in a massive fraud scheme, which led to his arrest and subsequent trial.

Sowore took to X to share his thoughts on the matter, lamenting that Bello became an “instant hero” in the courtroom after being granted bail.

He criticized the system, describing Nigeria as a “paradise for thieves” where individuals can loot and still be celebrated.

According to Sowore, the fact that Bello was granted bail and celebrated in the courtroom is a clear indication of the rot in the system.

Sowore argued that individuals who loot the country’s resources should not be treated with kid gloves.

The bail conditions set by Justice Emeka Nwite include providing two sureties who must own properties in Abuja, with title documents verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar.

Bello must also deposit his international passport and two recent passport photographs with the court.

He will be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

The case has generated widespread interest, with many Nigerians calling for Bello to be held accountable for his alleged actions.
