Aviation regulatory bodies have certified the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, which is situated along Ogun State’s Ilisan-Iperu axis, suitable for commercial use.

During their assessment on Tuesday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority gave the facility their approval.

The agencies commended the airport’s cutting-edge infrastructure in a statement released on Wednesday, calling it “world-class” and a “source of pride for Ogun State.”

They emphasized that the runway, fire stations, apron, weather monitoring systems, control tower, and other vital infrastructure all met international standards. Additionally, it was said to be among the greatest airports in West Africa.

“There has been significant improvement in the facilities since my last visit. The infrastructure here is on par with any standard airport globally,” said Ango Mohammed, who represented the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at the NCAA.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of acknowledging the project’s successful completion while praising the caliber of work carried out under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.

Speaking on behalf of NAMA’s Managing Director, Tayo John said the purpose of their visit was to make sure the facilities complied with safety and air traffic service regulations.

“We have inspected the infrastructure, and they comply with the strict standards required for safe and efficient air traffic operations,” he confirmed.

The airport is 98% finished, according to Nicolas Mfarrej, Senior Project Manager at Craneburg, the construction company in charge of the project.

Likewise, the visit served as the last evaluation before the start of full commercial operations, according to Engineer Oluwole Adeyileka, the Governor’s Consultant on Regulatory Matters.

Engineer Ade Akinsanya, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, and Captain Dapo Olumide, the Manager of Gateway International Airport, both expressed pleasure with the advancements.
