The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has reopened Runway 22, with normal flight operations resuming on Wednesday.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, confirmed the reopening, stating that landings and takeoffs have resumed as usual.

Cyber Reporters reports that runway was temporarily closed earlier on Wednesday after a cargo airplane skidded off the runway.

The incident involved an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT, which had five crew members on board.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all crew members were safely evacuated.

According to FAAN spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, the incident occurred at 10:05 am on Wednesday.

She stated that the crew members were taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks after being safely evacuated from the aircraft.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, had also confirmed the incident, warning passengers of potential delays.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs at the NCAA, advised passengers to be patient and orderly due to the temporary closure of the runway.

Despite the initial disruption, the FAAN was able to quickly reopen the runway, minimizing the impact on flight operations.

The authority expressed gratitude for the public’s patience during the temporary closure.

With the runway now reopened, flight operations have returned to normal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The incident serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the airport’s emergency response procedures and the collaboration between aviation authorities in Nigeria.
