Premier League referee, David Coote has been sacked by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, PGMOL, following an investigation into his behavior.

The 42-year-old referee was initially suspended on November 11, 2024, after a video circulated on social media showing him making derogatory remarks about Liverpool FC and former manager Jurgen Klopp.

The situation escalated when photographs were published in The Sun, allegedly showing Coote engaging in suspicious activity during the European Championship.

These incidents led the PGMOL to conclude that Coote’s actions made his position “untenable.”

The refereeing body stated that Coote’s actions were a serious breach of his employment contract. However, the PGMOL emphasized their ongoing support for Coote, citing their commitment to his welfare.

Coote has been informed of his right to appeal the decision, allowing him to contest the findings and the subsequent result of the investigation.

The termination of Coote’s contract marks a significant development in the refereeing world, highlighting the importance of maintaining professional standards and conduct.
