Kylian Mbappe has expressed his disappointment over Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Athletic Club on Wednesday night.
Mbappe acknowledged his role in the loss, which included missing a penalty kick and the French striker took to Instagram to reflect on the outcome, showing his determination to learn from the defeat.
Cyber Reporters reports that the match saw Athletic Club take the lead in the 53rd minute with a goal from Alex Berenguer.
Mbappe had the opportunity to equalize from the penalty spot, but his effort was saved by Julen Agirrezabala.
This missed chance proved costly, as Real Madrid struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match.
Real Madrid managed to level the match temporarily in the 78th minute with a goal from Jude Bellingham.
However, a lapse in concentration by Federico Valverde allowed Gorka Guruzeta to score the decisive goal just a minute later, sealing Madrid’s fourth defeat in their last seven matches.
Mbappe’s Instagram post showed his commitment to learning from the defeat. He wrote:
“It’s a tough result, and I recognize my part in it… Though this is a difficult moment, it’s also an opportunity to show resilience and character moving forward.”
The defeat has significant implications for Real Madrid’s La Liga campaign. With this loss, Real Madrid missed a chance to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona, who currently lead with 37 points.
Real Madrid sits in second place with 33 points, while Athletic Club holds fourth place with 29 points.
Real Madrid will look to bounce back from this loss in their upcoming La Liga clash against Girona on Saturday, December 7.
With Mbappe’s determination and the team’s resilience, Real Madrid will aim to return to winning ways and keep their title hopes alive.
