Nigerian goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named amongst the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

On Wednesday, December 4, the African football governing body announced the top echelon of candidates for the coveted award in a tweet. Nnadozie is the only Nigerian named among the five finalists, while Raheedat Ajibade did not make the final cut despite being named in the initial 10-player list.

Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy are also among the top five football players.

For the first time since 2018, the prize will be won by someone other than Asisat Oshoala. The Super Falcons striker has won the honor six times, including the last three editions.

Nnadozie also made the final cut for Goalkeeper of the Year. The 23-year-old got the award in 2023.

Chiamaka Okuchukwu of the Falconets was also named a top contender for the Best Young Player award.

Chris Danjuma of Falconets was selected as one of the finalists for coach of the year, beating off compatriots Bankole Olowookere of Flamingos and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens, who were originally nominated.

The Super Falcons are nominated for the national team of the year, while Edo Queens are among the ranks for the club of the year
