Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bills.

Cyber Reporters reports that Senator Dickson made the endorsement in an interview, emphasizing that while the bills are not inherently bad, they do require robust consultation to address concerns raised by various stakeholders.

Dickson stressed that comprehensive reforms like these demand broad consensus-building and consultation.

The senator believes that meaningful change, whether as a governor or president, necessitates fundamental reforms, stressing that the deeper the reforms, the more lasting their impact.

The four tax reform bills, which include the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria Establishment Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, and the Nigeria Tax Bill, have sparked intense debate nationwide.

While some Nigerians have criticized the bills, alleging they favor certain regions over others, proponents argue that many critics have not read the provisions and are perpetuating misinformation.

Dickson said: “A reform as massive as that conveyed in the four bills that the President and his team sent to the National Assembly requires a lot of political consensus building, consultation and consensus building.

“There is nothing bad about reforms. If you want to bring about massive change as a governor or president, you must undertake fundamental reforms.

“The deeper the reforms, the more likely the results will last even before you. There is nothing wrong about that.”
