The Imo State Police Command has described the alleged abduction of Uzodinma’s former Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, Fabian Ihekweme, by unidentified gunmen as a mere rumor, claiming that he was lawfully detained by State Police Command detectives on November 27, 2024.

The claim was inaccurate and deceptive, according to a press release sent from the desk of ASP Henry Okoye, the Command’s public relations officer.

According to ASP Okoye, Ihekweme was not kidnapped but his family had informed them that he was arrested by Imo State Police Command detectives after the Imo Democratic Alliance (IDA) filed a formal petition accusing him of publishing inflammatory and seditious material intended to stir up civil unrest in the state.

He maintained that in line with due process, a duly signed warrant of arrest was obtained before his detention.

“We urge the public to disregard the false narrative circulating on social media, and call on media practitioners to verify their sources before publishing, as misinformation undermines public trust,” he stated.

The spokesperson for the command further emphasized that the State Police Command is still dedicated to enforcing the law independently and would promptly update the public as needed.

The wife of the beleaguered former commissioner claimed that she was compelled to sound the alarm after masked men stormed their home and took her husband away without identifying him.
