Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has emphasized the crucial role of constant electricity in driving meaningful development in the country.

Adelabu stressed that power is the foundation for development and highlighted the need to address the challenges plaguing the sector.

He made these comments during a meeting with the African French Development delegation, led by Diarra Juliato Fellez, although he was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mahmuda Mamman.

Adelabu acknowledged the numerous factors challenging Nigeria’s power sector but expressed optimism that effective support and collaboration would help guarantee constant electricity.

Diarra, in his speech, outlined the African French Development’s, AFD, vision for Nigeria’s power sector, which includes increasing renewable energy sources, ensuring universal access to clean energy, and establishing a modernized grid.

He pointed out that the AFD aims to support Nigeria’s decarbonization journey by 2030 and position the country as a regional leader in sustainable energy development.

To achieve this, Diarra said the AFD will focus on promoting renewable energy development, energy efficiency, grid modernization, strengthening policy frameworks, capacity building, technology transfer, and financing green energy projects.
