Former spokesman for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande has called out ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for constantly mocking other presidents.

Akande believes Nigeria’s problems stem from poor political leadership, and Obasanjo’s comments are not helping.

Cyber Reporters gathered that Obasanjo had recently described President Bola Tinubu as “baba go-slow” during a lecture at Yale University.

Obasanjo also criticized the 2023 general elections, calling them a travesty, and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of compromising the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.

Akande responded to Obasanjo’s comments in an interview saying former presidents like Obasanjo should focus on offering constructive criticism rather than mocking their successors.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s political challenges are rooted in a deeper leadership crisis.

According to Akande, former presidents should take responsibility for their part in the country’s problems rather than constantly criticizing others.

He noted that Nigeria suffers from political leadership challenges, but the deeper problem is the leadership crisis itself.

Ultimately, Akande’s call for former presidents to take responsibility and offer constructive criticism is a step in the right direction. By promoting a culture of accountability and respectful dialogue, Nigeria’s leaders can work towards addressing the country’s deep-seated challenges.
