NBA superstar LeBron James has announced that he was taking an indefinite break from social media after releasing a message about “negative” portrayal in US media.
James, who has around 212 million followers on his Instagram and X accounts, announced his departure from social media after posting a post by Rich Kleiman, the long-time agent of NBA superstar Kevin Durant.
“With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of the national sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes,” Kleiman wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I for one find it all a waste of breath.”
The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James commented on the tweet with a simple “AMEN!!”
The 39-year-old later confirmed in another tweet that he was forsaking social media for the time being.
“And with that, I’ll holla at you all! I’m going to take a break from social media for now. “Y’all be careful,” James wrote on X.
James has previously stayed away from social media. The all-time leading scorer has taken breaks before, but usually to focus on his basketball.
James expressed displeasure with internet criticism during the Lakers’ victory over Utah on Tuesday when rookie Dalton Knecht scored 37 points.
