Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has paid a heartfelt tribute to his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu, after winning the governorship election.

Aiyedatiwa, who was Akeredolu’s deputy before taking over after his passing, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the late governor.

Cyber Reporters reports that Aiyedatiwa’s victory was sealed with 366,781 votes, surpassing Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who secured 117,845 votes.

Aiyedatiwa in an interview dedicated his win to Akeredolu, wishing he was present to share the moment.

“The Lord gives and takes, but today he is no more,” Aiyedatiwa said. “How I wish he was present in that banquet hall when I was declared in the company of other brother governors. That would have been really good, but God knows better.”

Akeredolu, who passed away in December last year after battling prostate cancer, was celebrated for his dedication to justice and his people.

Cyber Reporters gathered that friends and family honored his first posthumous birthday at the Jogor center in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, where Aiyedatiwa described him as “a true patriot who sought justice for the weakest.

With congratulatory messages pouring in, Aiyedatiwa is set to continue leading Ondo State for the next four years.

His tribute to Akeredolu serves as a testament to the lasting impact of his predecessor’s legacy.
