The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has publicly denounced any ties to the notorious terrorist group Lakurawa, operating in Northern Nigeria.

In a statement, MACBAN’s Kebbi State Secretary, Abubakar Lamido, emphasized that the group’s members are also victims of Lakurawa’s illicit activities.

Lamido clarified that MACBAN had no involvement in the recent killing of six indigenous Fulani and the destruction of 185 settlements and 42 grain silos in a reprisal attack.

Instead, he attributed the attack to the Yansa Kai volunteer security group, which retaliated against the killing of 15 people in Mera.

According to Lamido, Lakurawa’s reign of terror extends to pastoralists, forcing them to pay taxes and confiscating their livestock.

He said in the Augie area, they have extorted money ranging from N300,000 to N20 million, seizing 120 cows, 51 goats, and sheep from Fulani cattle rearers.

“Lakurawa are hardened criminals and should be treated as such,” MACBAN declared. “We’re not associated with them; we’re the worst affected by their illegalities.”

The group urged the government to intervene, apprehend the perpetrators, and support victims who have lost food, shelter, and livestock.

Cyber Reporters recalls that Lakurawa’s activities have been reported since 2018, with the group operating freely with sophisticated weapons in areas like Sokoto and Kebbi States, and along the Nigeria-Niger Republic borders
