The Kwara State Government has lifted its initial restriction on certain types of vehicles utilising Ahmadu Bello Way, allowing shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing cars to operate along the route leading to the Government House.

Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, clarified in a statement issued through the ministry’s Press Secretary, Olajide Abolarin, that mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services are now permitted on Ahmadu Bello Way, which houses key facilities such as the Government House, MDAs, and security installations.

“This clarification is necessary for public awareness,” the statement read.

However, Olododo reiterated that tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks remain restricted from the route, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order in the area.

Last Friday, the government prohibited certain types of cars from using Ahmadu Bello Way, prompting the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to commence swift enforcement. The restricted vehicles included tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorbikes (Okada), taxis, lorries, and heavy-duty vehicles.

Olododo stated that violators of the limitations could face fines of up to N50,000. Ahmadu Bello Way, which was recently restored, is a significant access route for commercial trucks travelling to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin districts of the Ilorin metropolis.
