The Lagos State Government has urged international business interests to invest in low-cost housing projects with long-term repayment plans.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made the demand at the recently concluded 2024 World Urban Forum in Cairo, Egypt, hosted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

The statement stated that the five-day program, with the theme “It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities,” included significant workshops, one of which was the Lagos networking event titled “Our Lagos, a home for all.”

In his remarks, Akinderu-Fatai gave an enlightening presentation to the global community on Lagos and its success story in the housing sector.

According to him, the LASG has continuously managed its fast urbanization concerns while fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular emphasis on Goal 11.

He went on to say that the state is working on housing, infrastructure, and urban regeneration to make cities more livable, equitable, and environmentally sustainable.

Akinderu-Fatai said, “This unit, which would be accessed through affordable mortgage arrangements, is another laudable stride by the state towards social housing, particularly aimed to reduce the housing deficit further, hence bringing more low and middle-income earners on the housing ladder.”
