Nigeria’s under-18 men’s handball team made history on Wednesday by winning the IHF Trophy Africa Men Continental Phase.

Cyber Reporters reports that the team’s impressive 38-26 victory over Guinea in the final match secured their championship title.

The final match was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and was attended by high-ranking officials from the Ethiopian central government and representatives from the Nigerian embassy.

Under the guidance of Coach Emeka Nnamani, the Nigerian team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination.

Despite some early setbacks, they controlled the first half, ending it with a commanding 21-14 lead.

As the second half commenced, Nigeria’s handball team unleashed their full potential, showcasing impressive teamwork and strategic plays.

Key players Christian Foloki and Azeez Sulaimon played pivotal roles in maintaining the team’s momentum.

Foloki, who had recovered from a minor injury sustained in the semi-final match against Cameroon, was instrumental in the team’s success.

Sulaimon, the top scorer, effectively executed tactical plays and bolstered the team’s defense against the Guinean side.

The Nigerian team’s decisive 38-26 victory marked a successful defense of their title, previously won in Congo Brazzaville two years earlier.

This achievement underscores the team’s growing dominance in African handball.

Azeez Sulaimon Olaitan’s outstanding performance earned him the Most Valuable Player, MVP, award.

In a post-match interview, Coach Emeka Nnamani expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement.

He emphasized the rigorous preparation that went into their campaign and commended the players’ tactical awareness.

“We prepared for this moment, and the boys took it with all seriousness,” Nnamani said. “We knew the Guineans from previous matches and watched their games in this competition, so we could tactically prepare for them.”

Nigeria’s IHF Trophy Africa title is a testament to the team’s hard work, dedication, and growing prowess in international handball competitions.
