Court Grants Reps Member Alex Ikwechegh N500,000 Bail

Kuje Magistrate Court has granted bail of N500,000 to Alex Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member representing Aba North and South On Wednesday, Cyber Reporters report.

Ikwechegh was charged with reportedly abusing a Bolt driver named Stephen Abuwatseya outside his Abuja home.

Deji Adeyanju, the bolt driver’s counsel, confirmed that Ikwechegh, the defendant in the case, will be hauled before the court at noon on Wednesday.

The lawmaker’s video of reportedly punching the bolt driver went viral on social media.

In the video, the lawmaker is heard threatening the driver and assuring him that he can make him disappear without a trace.

Alex Ikwechegh publicly apologized for attacking a Bolt driver who was delivering a package to him, he acknowledged that his actions fell short of what was expected of a public servant.

“As a public servant, I recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people,” he said when he made his public apology on Monday. I sincerely apologize for my behavior, which did not meet the expectations placed on me.

He expressed contrition for the damage and humiliation his acts had brought to Abuwatseya, his supporters, and the general public.

Additionally, he affirmed his collaboration with the Nigerian Police, promising to uphold responsibility and assist with their investigation.
