The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, chaired by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Greg Mbadiwe, has selected Prof. Benard Odoh as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Odoh, a geophysics professor at the University’s Department of Applied Geophysics, Faculty of Physical Sciences, was chosen as the VC following a thorough screening and interview process that included 18 other applications.
Mbadiwe announced the appointment during the certificate presentation at the University’s Council Chambers on Tuesday, stating that Odoh was chosen first from a pool of applicants due to his evidence-based significant experience in university teaching, research, and administration.
During his acceptance speech, Odoh thanked the council for selecting him for the job and promised to carry everyone along in the course of duty.
“By my appointment, I will be the first alumni of the university to be appointed as vice-chancellor. I had my first, second, and third degrees in this university.
“I thanked the school authorities. I understand the institute and its needs very well, having passed through the process. I should be judged based on performance and not based on hearsay. We will face the business of leadership straightaway. The era of politics is over,” Odoh added.
Over 120 research articles in respectable international journals, e-books, and monographs have been published by Odoh, an Emeritus Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State.
In 2019, he left his post as Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government and returned to Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
