The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed that Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, is currently being interrogated at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North & South Federal Constituency, is accused of assaulting Stephen Abuwatseya, an e-hailing (Bolt) driver.

According to a viral video, the congressman struck the driver when he asked for the delivery charge, questioning whether the guy knew who he was speaking to.

The politician also vowed to make the driver “disappear” without penalties.

The police, according to a statement issued by command spokesman Josephine Adeh on Monday, have launched an investigation into the case.

She stated that early investigations revealed that Abuwatseya was delivering a box to Alex Ikwechegh when a disagreement erupted over the mode of delivery.

Adeh said, ““Alexander Ikwegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

“The FCT Police Command has received a report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters regarding an incident involving a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.

Adeh added that CP Tunji Disu has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
