President Bola Tinubu has commanded that the full circumstances behind the NNPC helicopter crash off the coast of Bonny Finima in Port-Harcourt be investigated and that the families involved be provided with closure, Cyber Reporters report.

Tinubu offered his “deepest sympathies” to the relatives of those who died in a statement released on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirming his solidarity with the mourning parties.

This was stated in a statement titled “President Tinubu Commiserates with the NNPC Board and Families of Victims onboard the Helicopter in Port-Harcourt.”

Tinubu has “urged military officers involved in various operations in the zone to join the rescue mission,” ensuring cooperation with the Nigerian Safety Investigative Bureau (NSIB), the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and other agencies critical to recovery and investigative efforts.

On Thursday, the helicopter, contracted by NNPC Limited, crashed into the Atlantic while “ferrying contract staff” to the FPSO-NUIMS ANTAN complex.

To ensure comprehensive support, Tinubu has “urged military officers involved in various operations in the zone to join the rescue mission,” ensuring collaboration with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and other agencies critical to recovery and investigation efforts.

According to the statement, his decree demonstrates the government’s commitment to investigating the full facts of the catastrophe and offering closure to those involved.

The Rivers State Police Command verified a helicopter crash in the Bonny axis of Rivers State on Thursday, stating that two crew members and six passengers were on board.

According to the police, the marine division, in collaboration with other authorities, has launched a search party to retrieve the aircraft and its occupants.
