The Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, has thrown its weight behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in its quest to stamp out corruption.
Cyber Reporters reports that this endorsement comes at a critical time, as the Supreme Court is set to rule on a suit filed by 19 governors challenging the constitutionality of the EFCC’s establishment.
Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, made this commitment known at the 2024 National Cybercrime Summit in Abuja.
Organized by the EFCC, in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme, RoLAC, and the European Union, the summit aimed to enhance digital skills to combat cybercrime.
Abdulrazaq emphasized the need for a unified front against cybercrime, calling for synergy on cybersecurity to boost national development.
He praised the EFCC, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and National Orientation Agency, NOA, for educating young Nigerians on crime, drug abuse, and patriotism.

Abdulrazaq said:
“You have our full support in this endeavor. We commend the EFCC for organizing this summit.
“I’m confident that, after this gathering, we’ll be better informed and more motivated to improve the public’s perception of cybercrime.”
On his part, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara also pledged his support for the EFCC’s anti-corruption crusade, stating that leaders should be accountable and transparent.
“I’m not afraid of the EFCC’s investigation, and I’ll give them the required assistance,” Lawal said.
This show of support comes on the heels of the EFCC’s launch of a 24-hour Cybercrime Rapid Response Desk to tackle internet fraud.
President Bola Tinubu has also called for stronger collaboration with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, to combat cybercrime and terrorism.
