A Federal High Court sitting in Zamfara State has delivered a significant verdict in the ongoing power struggle within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The court declined a request by a faction backed by Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, seeking an ex parte order to hold the party’s National Executive Council, NEC, meeting.

This development comes as the factional crisis within the PDP continues to deepen.

Governor Mohammed’s faction had approached the court, seeking an order to convene the NEC meeting, but Justice Salim Ibrahim denied their request.

The move to hold the NEC meeting was part of an effort by some PDP governors, led by Mohammed, to remove acting national chairman, Umar Damagum.

However, this move has been met with resistance from stakeholders loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The opposition to Damagum’s removal is rooted in concerns over the legitimacy and timing of the move.

Wike’s loyalists argue that the removal would undermine the party’s stability and create further divisions.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the Federal High Court in Abuja had previously issued an order barring the party from removing Damagum.

This order has added to the complexity of the situation, with rival factions interpreting it differently.

The lawsuit filed by Mohammed’s faction was submitted to the Federal High Court in Zamfara State, marking the latest salvo in the ongoing battle for control of the PDP.

The court’s decision to decline the request for an ex parte order has significant implications for the party’s future.

As the PDP struggles to resolve its internal conflicts, the party’s national leadership remains in limbo.

The standoff between rival factions has raised concerns about the party’s ability to present a united front ahead of future elections.

The outcome of this power struggle will have far-reaching consequences for the PDP’s prospects and Nigeria’s political landscape.

With the court’s decision, the focus shifts to the next move by the rival factions and the potential implications for the party’s national convention.
