The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has disclosed that it supplies neighboring countries, including Niger, Togo, and Benin Republic, with 24-hour electricity.

Cyber Reporters reports that this consistent and stable supply contrasts with Nigeria’s own struggles with constant power supply.

TCN’s Chief Executive Officer, Sule Abdulaziz in an interview stated that that some areas in Nigeria receive 24-hour electricity, specifically those categorized as “Band A” areas, which are prioritized by distribution companies.

He said: “We suply power to Togo, Benin and Niger. We supply them power consistently. They get power from Nigeria on 24-hour basis and they’re paying.

“Nigerians are getting 24-hour electricity supply. Not everybody. Those people in Band A. You’ll see that they get 20-22 hours.

“Some Nigerians are getting 24 hours. Every distribution company has Band A and that is their priority.”

Cyber Reporters gathered that Nigeria’s energy sector faces significant challenges in meeting the country’s basic household and industrial power needs.

The sector generates, transmits, and distributes megawatts, MW, of electric power that falls short of demand.

The International Energy Agency reports that Nigeria’s primary energy demand is expected to grow, with gas meeting a significant share of this demand.
