Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Auwal Sankara has been charged in Kano court for alleged infidelity.

Mr Abba Sufi, the Director-General of the Hisbah Commission in Kano, confirmed the development to journalists on Sunday.

Kano Hisbah supposedly apprehended Sankara in an unfinished structure with a married woman.

In a statement to reporters on Thursday, the commissioner had disputed the accusation. He argued that the report of his detention was an attempt to destroy his established political career.

Umar Namadi, the governor of Jigawa State, has formed a five-member committee to probe the allegations against the commissioner.

The committee is chaired by Malam Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the State Government; members include Commissioners for Information, Sagir Musa; Basic Education, Lawal Danzomo; and Special Adviser on Security Matters, Usman Muhammed.

The committee is slated to report its conclusions in two weeks. Mr Ibrahim, the SSG, signed a statement in Dutse on Sunday.

Ibrahim stated that the state government took the enormity of the allegation seriously.

He claimed that media coverage of the subject caused great humiliation and damaged the government’s credibility.
