Fulham manager, Marco Silva has strongly criticized Libyan authorities for their inhumane treatment of Super Eagles players, including Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, during the international break in October.

Cyber Reporters reports that the players traveled to Libya for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier but were diverted to a smaller airport in Al Abraq, where they were held for 18 hours without basic necessities.

Silva expressed his outrage ahead of Fulham’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, saying,

“It’s unacceptable and unprofessional. Players representing their countries should be treated with dignity and respect.”

He emphasized the impact on the players’ well-being and performance, stating,

“We expect our players to return healthy and ready to perform at their best. The experience in Libya was far from normal.”

according to Silva, Iwobi and Bassey have recovered and are set to face Aston Villa.

Silva confirmed, “They had a tough time recovering, but they’ll be ready for the match.”
