Tragedy struck in Lagos on Saturday morning when an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, was killed in an altercation with commercial motorcyclists, known as Okada riders, in the Agege area.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the incident occurred at WEMCO junction along Mobil Road, where the police team, led by the deceased, responded to a distress call about an accident involving a truck and an Okada rider.

It was further gathered that the Okada rider lost his life in the accident, which fueled the anger of the motorcyclists against the police officers.

The situation escalated when the police attempted to evacuate the truck, as the riders demanded that it be set ablaze.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, describing it as a senseless act of violence.

According to Hundeyin, the police team met a large gathering of motorcyclists upon arrival, and despite their efforts to evacuate the truck, they came under attack.

Sadly, the 46-year-old ASP sustained a fatal head injury and died on the spot, while the truck driver managed to escape.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved.
