Nigeria’s Super Eagles maintained their top spot in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a thrilling 1-0 victory over Libya, courtesy of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s 85th-minute winner.

Dele-Bashiru, who replaced Alex Iwobi in the 74th minute, broke Libya’s resistance with a clinical finish from Moses Simon’s low cross in the 86th minute.

This decisive strike secured Nigeria’s third consecutive win, taking their tally to seven points.

The match saw controversy earlier when Ademola Lookman’s goal was ruled out for offside, sparking protests from fans.

Libya employed time-wasting tactics to frustrate the Super Eagles, but Dele-Bashiru’s late heroics sealed the win.

With this victory, Nigeria consolidates its position ahead of Tuesday’s rematch against Libya.

A win in that encounter would significantly boost their chances of securing a spot at the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
