The Delta State Police Command has denied claims of a suicide bombing in Sapele, a timber town in Delta state.
In a phone discussion with The Nation on Wednesday afternoon, SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, said reports of a bomb explosion in the vicinity were an exaggeration of a minor incident.
Reports of an alleged suicide explosion on Mission Road in Sapele on Tuesday evening sparked alarm among inhabitants and nearby communities.
According to reports, the suspect’s body parts were scattered over the site.
Several people were reported to have been hospitalized as a result of their injuries in the incident.
However, the police spokesman stated that the incident was so trivial that it was not brought to the notice of the local police until media reports surfaced.
The PPRO, who wanted to speak more about the incident later because he was going to appear on a live program, stated: “There was no bomb burst in Sapele. It’s simply an unneeded exaggeration. It was something modest, not a bomb. “There were no casualties.”
