The Federal Government is set to debut a new primary school education curriculum to improve Nigeria’s fundamental education system, Cyber Reporters report.

According to Dr. Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Education, the redesigned curriculum, which incorporates moral principles, intends to address societal reorientation and regenerate Nigeria’s social ideals.

Dr. Sununu, speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during the Universal Basic Education Commission’s (UBEC) flag-off of teacher training and the launch of moral reorientation sensitization materials, emphasized that the updated curriculum will provide learners with not only academic skills but also the ethical framework required to make positive contributions to society.

He stated, “The revised curriculum, to be launched at the National Council of Education (NCE) meeting, has been designed to instill values that address our orientation needs and foster social regeneration. Our goal is to nurture a generation of learners who are not only academically competent but also emotionally intelligent, socially responsible, and morally upright.”

The Minister added that the new approach intends to involve students in conversations about values and ethics, which goes beyond standard teaching approaches. He went on to say that the federal government is dedicated to continuing to invest in teacher development to ensure that educators have the skills they need to meet the changing demands of children.

Earlier, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, stated the importance of the new program in encouraging teachers to instill moral principles in students. He expressed optimism that this approach will develop responsible individuals and alleviate the country’s learning crisis.

“Our hope is to instill values in our education system so that growing children can embrace them and respond to the needs of their peers and the nation,” Dr. Bobboyi said.
