Monday brought no respite to Rivers State, as fresh explosions and protests rocked several local government areas, perpetuating an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty.

The latest turmoil stems from an order issued by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, directing the immediate unsealing of the 23 local government secretariats and withdrawal of police personnel who had occupied the premises since July.

In Eleme Local Government Area, chaos erupted as the secretariat was set ablaze, with buildings and vehicles reduced to smoldering ruins following a suspected dynamite explosion.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of pandemonium as terrified residents fled the area.

Meanwhile, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, protesters stormed the council headquarters in Omoku, effectively barring the newly sworn-in chairman from assuming office.

The standoff has heightened fears of worsening instability in the region.

As the situation continues to deteriorate, concerns mount about the potential consequences for residents, governance, and the rule of law in Rivers State.
