37-year-old Fatima Abubakar from Yola South local government area in Adamawa State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly torturing two toddlers in her custody.

According to Fatima, she abused the children because they urinated and defecated on her bed.

The police were alerted to the situation by concerned community members who had witnessed Fatima’s cruel behavior.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, Fatima not only physically assaulted the children but also denied them food.

Nguroje said what is even more disturbing is that Fatima is the stepmother to the victims, a two-year-old girl and a little boy.

Neighbors reported that she had a history of torturing the kids and had warned them to mind their own business.

Upon her arrest, Fatima confessed to committing the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered that Fatima be charged to court for prosecution.

Incidents like these remind us of the importance of protecting vulnerable children from abuse and neglect.
