The Action Peoples Party, APP, has emerged victorious in 22 out of 23 local government areas in Rivers State’s local government elections held on Saturday.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, declared APP’s chairmanship candidates winners after collation.

RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli announced the results at the commission’s office in Port Harcourt.

Enebeli noted that results for Etche Local Government Area and 319 councillorship positions would be announced later.

The elections, which saw participation from 18 political parties, took place across 6,866 units in the state.

Enebeli praised the commitment of political parties and Rivers residents, describing the process as “smooth, safe, free, fair, credible, and transparent.”

He hailed the elections as the most successful and violence-free council polls in the state’s history, despite initial concerns.
