Rivers State Government has approved an additional N1 billion to the existing N1 billion Pension Fund, bringing the total to N2 billion.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara made this announcement during a State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The State Executive Council commended the Governor for this bold decision, noting that it aligns with his welfare package for civil servants and retired senior citizens.

Commissioner for Information and Communications Warisenibo Joseph Johnson praised the move, stating that the increased pension fund would benefit pensioners in the state.

Additionally, the Rivers State Head of Civil Service, George Nwaeke, revealed that the Council approved a federal law extending the retirement age for teachers by five years.

Professional teachers registered with the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, can now retire at 65 years or 40 years of service, whichever comes first.

This extension aims to recognize the dedication and service of teachers in the state.

The policy takes effect immediately, based on the national circular enabling the elongation of service years for teachers across the country.
