The former Governor and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has declared that Governor Godwin Obaseki is “politically dead”.

Oshiomhole made this statement during an interview following the outcome of the recent governorship election in Edo State.

According to Oshiomhole, the people of Edo have spoken, and their decision to elect Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as the new governor-elect is a clear indication that Obaseki’s political reign is over.

He criticized Obaseki’s “do-or-die” stance during the election, suggesting that the governor’s comments were reckless and irresponsible.

Oshiomhole also referenced President Jonathan’s statement that “the election of even a president is not worth the blood of any Nigerian” to drive home his point that the people of Edo will not sacrifice their lives for anyone’s political ambition.

He condemned the PDP national chairman’s call for a “bloodbath” over the election, emphasizing that the Edo people value peace and stability.

Oshiomhole said he believes that Obaseki’s political career is finished, adding that the people of Edo have moved on to a new leadership under Monday Okpebholo.

He said: “We subscribe to President Jonathan’s school which says the election of even a president is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.

“And you have the PDP national chairman who is acting with all the crises around the status talking about bloodbath for election.

“You have Obaseki, I watched him on Channels insisting it was do-or-die. And when you asked him, he said, if they did, then they would be dead. Now the people have done it. I guess he is politically dead.

“The people have decided that Monday, who was elected last year as a senator, has been elected; and now has been declared the governor-elect.”
