Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has been released by the Department of State Services, DSS, after a brief arrest at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.

Sowore was detained on Sunday upon arrival, sparking concerns over his safety.

Earlier, he had raised an alarm on social media about a plot by security agencies to track him down and frame him.

However, constitutional lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed Sowore’s release, adding that his passport has also been returned.

He said: “Omoyele Sowore released, passport returned to him. Aluta continua.?

In a personal update on X, Sowore disclosed that the Nigerian Immigration Service has returned his passport.

He wrote: “I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport, released back to me. #RevolutionNow.”

The swift release comes after Sowore’s earlier warning of a potential crackdown by security agencies.
