The Labour Party’s National Working Committee has called for an investigation into alleged financial misconduct during the 2023 presidential campaign.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, made the call at a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, urging the National Security Adviser and EFCC to probe the matter.

Arabambi expressed concern over recent comments by Aisha Yesufu, who denied accusations of being involved in the alleged diversion of campaign funds.

The Labour Party alleges that Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the it’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi and others mismanaged and diverted over N12bn and $15m in donations intended for the party’s campaign.

Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s denials as attempts to cover up the alleged financial misconduct, describing her statements as an insult to the party’s leadership.

He also accused Yesufu and her associates of acting under Obi’s directive to defraud the party, describing Obi as a “political merchant”.

Arabambi further implicated Afenifere leaders, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, accusing them of retaining over N600m in private accounts linked to Afenifere.

The accused parties have yet to respond to these latest allegations, which have sparked a heated controversy within the party.
