US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has denounced the recent gun violence at Apalachee High School in Georgia as a “senseless tragedy”.

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old suspect opened fire on students and teachers, leaving at least four people dead.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that nine others, including a teacher and eight students, were hospitalized following the incident.

In response, Vice President Harris issued a statement on her official social media handle, condemning the violence and urging action.

Harris emphasized the need to end the epidemic of gun violence, highlighting the urgency for change to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

She wrote, “Today, Doug and I are mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short by gun violence at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

“Our hearts are with the students, teachers, and families impacted by this shooting, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement on the scene.

“This is a senseless tragedy — and it does not have to be this way”.
