The Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, has launched its Mobile Application and National Crash Reporting Information System, or NACRIS, to verify drivers’ licenses, number plates, and speed detectors, among others.

The FRSC launched the app on Thursday in Abuja, and it will also provide services such as eyewitness reports, emergency reports, black spots, national traffic radio, speed limiter verification, driving school standardization scheme verification, reminders for driver’s license and vehicle paper renewal, and emergency contacts.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, stated that the launch of both digital platforms, which will raise awareness and sensitize bus drivers and passengers on the potential causes of road traffic crashes, represents a significant step forward in the corp’s efforts to implement policies and create a safer motoring environment by reducing crash-related injuries and deaths on highways.

He stated that despite the FRSC’s innovation and implementation of measures to combat reckless driving and improper road use, 2776 people were killed and 16,000 injured in road traffic crashes between January and July 2024.

While commending the FRSC for its efforts to align with one of the cardinal objectives of the renewed hope agenda, which is focused on digital transformation and national economic growth, the SGF reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to ensuring that these projects are sustained through adequate support for Nigerians.

The Corp Marshal FRSC, Shehu Mohammed said, the mobile app is a software application that can be used to alert the corps on sensitive road safety issues through programmed features such as assisted speeding, dangerous driving, and verifying our vehicle documents, among others.

He said the proper application of these features is expected to drastically reduce injuries and fatalities resulting from road traffic crashes.
