The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has issued a strong demand for the immediate reversal of the recent increase in petrol prices across the country.

The NLC made this call to action in a post on the union’s official  X handle on Tuesday evening.

The NLC’s statement was clear and direct, reading: “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump price of PMS across the country.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the union had expressed feelings of betrayal by President Bola Tinubu.

This came after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced a significant increase in the official price of fuel, from N617 to N897 per litre.

According to NLC President Joe Ajaero, the union had accepted the N70,000 minimum wage based on an understanding that there would be no further increases in fuel prices.

This latest development has led to a sense of betrayal among union members.

Ajaero has warned that the NLC will be taking action in response to the price hike, adding that in the coming days, the union’s leadership will meet to make key decisions, which will be made public in due course.

The NLC’s demands and threats hint at a potentially escalating situation, with the union determined to push back against the fuel price increase and protect the interests of its members.
