The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of 20 medical students and a house officer from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos.
The 20 students were kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State about a week ago.
The Command Police spokesman SP Catherine Anene who announced their release said details will be released in the morning today.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun had on Wednesday, deployed Tactical Squad for the rescue operation.
Anene had said the tactical squad, deployed to the state by Egbetokun, in collaboration with other officers on the ground, had intensified and doubled their efforts to rescue all the students.
It was gathered that a combined team of security operatives coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser carried out the operation.
It was also gathered that the successful operation involved the police, operatives of the Department of Security Service, DSS, the military and the cooperation of the Benue State Government.
