The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal by former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva against Governor Duoye Diri’s victory in the last governorship election held in Bayelsa State on November 11, 2023.

The Apex Court, in the judgment on Friday, August 23, on Sylva’s appeal, marked: SC/CV/648/2024, held that the appeal lacked merit.

The appellate court’s five-member panel was unanimous in affirming the earlier decision by the Court of Appeal that Sylva was wrong to have filed multiple notices of appeal against a single judgment of the election petition tribunal.

Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba read the lead judgment.
