Nigeria’s 22nd Chief Justice (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola has officially departed from service at the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Justice Ariwoola, born on August 22, 1954, has retired after a long judicial career.

Justice Ariwoola was appointed to the Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011, and became the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria on June 27, 2022, following the departure of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad.

On September 21, 2022, the Nigerian Senate formally confirmed his appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria.

As circumstances surrounding his retirement unfold at the Supreme Court, there are significant signs that Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will be named his successor, making her the new Chief Justice of Nigeria.
