Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara refuted allegations on Tuesday that he is likely to leave the Peoples Democratic Party as the conflict between him and his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, rages.

While reiterating that Rivers State remained a PDP state, Fubara denied rumors that he intended to leave the party.

On Tuesday, he spoke to a team from the PDP Board of Trustees, led by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, at Government House in Port Harcourt.

The meeting was announced in a statement by Nelson Chukwudi, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary.

According to the statement, the Wabara-led delegation claimed that the meeting’s purpose was to promote peace in Rivers State amid the cold war between Fubara and Wike, as well as their followers.

Wabara stated that the PDP feared losing Rivers State, thus it became critical to address the dispute.

Fubara, for his part, said the visit of PDP BoT members was reassuring, and that if he had any reservations about the party’s support, the visit had dispelled them.

Fubara said, “I want to thank the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees. Honestly speaking, if I was having any doubt about my membership of this great party, I think today, I have a reconfirmation that I am still – not minding the drama around – a member of the party.

“And, I want to thank you for taking all the trouble to come to Rivers State to see the governor and the supporters of the party, genuinely.

“I need to use that word, genuinely, because we, that are here, are members of the Peoples Democratic Party undiluted.”
