Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted over 20 medical and dental students and a House Officer in Benue State.

The students who are from two universities were travelling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students, FECAMDS, annual convention in Enugu.

Report says the students, from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were traveling together when they were ambushed by gunmen around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of the state.

It was further gathered that the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident, said an investigation had been launched into the abduction.

Anene said: “Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing.”
