The Action People’s Party Secretariat in Rivers State has been rocked by an explosion.
On Monday, August 12, at around one in the morning, witnesses reported hearing the loud sound of an explosion caused by an exploded dynamite.
A number of the opposition party’s priceless possessions were destroyed, including tables, chairs, and files. Additionally, doors and window panes were smashed, walls had numerous cracks in them, and flooring suffered damage.
The state’s leadership issue may not be unrelated to the development.
Following the alleged takeover of the People’s Democratic Party in the state by Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and his predecessor, there have been rumours that the Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has concluded plans to join the APP with his supporters.
A party member, known only as Chimene, confirmed the news to journalists, saying, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3am today.”
He said: “This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”
